NC Sierra Club Endorses Deb Butler
Conservation Group Praises Butler’s Work to Protect North Carolina’s Environment
Wilmington, NC - Today the Cape Fear Group and the North Carolina Chapter of the Sierra Club announced their endorsement of Deborah (Deb) Butler in the 2012 Election for State Senate District 9, representing New Hanover County.
“Ms. Butler is the environmental leader we need representing New Hanover County," said Cape Fear Group Chair Mac Montgomery. "We are confident that she will work hard to protect North Carolina’s environment for our families and for our future."
Deb Butler is an outspoken advocate for the environment who is committed to protecting air and water quality, and supporting efforts to promote sustainable development if she is elected to the state legislature. Ms. Butler has been at the forefront of community efforts to limit toxic waste and oppose the environmental degradation that would be caused by Titan Cement’s proposed plant.
Ms. Butler has tirelessly supported the Cape Fear Green Building Alliance and has displayed consistent support for sustainable growth in New Hanover. She supports economic development that includes clean, safe and well-paying jobs.
“Deb is a true environmental champion who will lead the fight to protect North Carolina’s clean air, clean water and special places,” added Montgomery.
Along with the endorsement, the Sierra Club will lend its volunteer strength to Butler’s campaign. "We pledge to do all we can to help ensure Deb Butler is elected," stated Aileen Wu Viorel, Cape Fear Group Political Committee Chair.
"Scores of Sierra Club volunteers will contact voters on her behalf and we will speak to the public as often as possible about her exemplary environmental record. We look forward to having a state senator who values the environment and will work to bring clean energy jobs to our coastal communities," added Viorel.
