NC Sierra Club Statement on Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx’s Nomination to Head Transportation Department


CHARLOTTE - Earlier today President Obama announced the Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx as the next Secretary of Transportation.  Upon this announcement, Molly Diggins, state director of the North Carolina Sierra Club, issued the following statement:


“Mayor Foxx is an optimistic leader who recognizes the value of transit infrastructure to a growing area.  Mr. Foxx appreciates the value of innovation and is part of a new generation of leadership that has a different perspective when it comes to economic development, infrastructure, and how our communities connect.”

Bill Gupton, chair of the Sierra Club’s Central Piedmont Group, based in Charlotte, added:

"Anthony Foxx’s vision to expand public transportation options and light rail demonstrate the type of leadership we need on the national level."
